Development XV see off Combination

A Bath Development XV defeated the Bath Combination 82-6 at the Rec on Wednesday night.
Bath opened the scoring in the first minute with fullback Ollie Goss latching onto a Charlie Perry break and outpacing the Combination defence to score. Fly-half Luke Cozens hit the conversion.

Despite the blistering start by Bath, the Combination’s defence held firm for the rest of the first quarter and some good rugby and pressure on the Development side resulted in two penalty opportunities which were both well taken and converted by Combination fly-half Paul Edson. The score was now 7-6.

However the floodgates then opened and tries from Cozens, winger Ian Davey (2) and centre Louis Messer (all converted by Cozens) took the score to 35-6 going into half-time.

With a number of substitutions on both sides after the break, the second-half saw the Bath Development XV move up another gear.

A George Hughes brace – the later try seeing the centre outpace the Combination defenders to touch down – opened up the second-half scoring.

Further tries came from Davey (who took his tally for the night to 3) and substitutes John Gravier, Ollie Hayes and Guy Mercer. Luke Cozens converted every one of the tries, with a number of his kicks being hit from difficult angles.

Lee Audis finished off proceedings with a try in the 78th minute to give the development side a 82-6 victory.
