Saturday June 7th saw stacks of Tag Rugby action at Bath Rugby's Lambridge ground, with the Primary and Secondary Tag Rugby Festivals taking place, both sponsored by Wilts Electrical Wholesalers.
First up, eleven teams of girls from Primary schools across the Bath area competed against each other in 36 hotly-contested games. The teams were: Bathford A & B, St Andrew’s, Widcombe, St Martin’s Garden, Bathampton, Combe Down, High Littleton, Westfield, St Michaels and Weston All Saints Primary Schools.

After intense competition and a fantastic display of rugby skills, Combe Down Primary School came out overall winners with 37 tries and 18 points.

Next was the Secondary Girls’ competition, with Oldfield, Ralph Allen and Wellsway schools playing in 6 tough rounds. Despite fierce competition from all sides and some fantastic play, Ralph Allen walked away with the trophy, winning all their 4 games and scoring 24 tries in the process. Wellsway came in second and previous winners Oldfield came a very close third.

Community Coach Steve Middleton said, “It was a great atmosphere and great fun today. It was fantastic to see so many girls enjoying playing Tag rugby, and some of the skills displayed were impressive.”

The festivals were the culmination of the Wilts Girls Rugby project which aims to increase access to rugby for girls in local schools.
